How to find the right hat for your face shape
September 20, 2026

Crown height, brim width and the two measurements that matter most.
A hat reads as part of your face before it reads as part of your outfit. Two measurements decide most of it: the height of the crown and the width of the brim.
Round and oval faces suit a taller crown with a defined pinch, because the vertical line balances the width of the face. A shorter, softer crown works better on longer faces, where it keeps the proportions in check.
Brim width is the second lever. A brim that ends around the width of your shoulders keeps the silhouette calm; anything wider becomes a statement, which is perfect for a sun hat but heavy for an everyday fedora.
Finally, fit beats everything. Measure around your head just above the ears, keep the tape level, and if you are between two sizes choose the larger one and use the inner band to take it in.
